SXSW: Quick Recap
Remember that time I was going to post during South By? So much for that.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have found time even if I wasn’t too consumed by all the music to try. The sheer volume of shows happening at any given time was overwhelming, and I was trying to get to everything I could. I saw a lot, and I still feel like I failed epically in that sense. But I did have an amazing time.
Now that I’m back in the tundra that is upstate New York, I couldn’t miss Austin more. It’s an amazing city with great food, people, and overall culture. I will be doing everything I can to see that I make it to SXSW next year.
Through all of the panels, trade shows, and networking events, I think I learned the most important lesson just by attending shows: the value of music is incredibly subjective. I saw a lot of artists that friends poked fun at me for, but they completely moved me. Similarly, friends of mine enjoyed shows that I would have never even considered attending. It was a nice reminder that at its core, music is meant to touch the listener and if what you’re listening to means something to you, who cares what anyone else thinks?
Again, I need to go back next year. The experience was too incredible (and Austin is too awesome). Time to start saving in 3, 2…
